MoU on scientific collaboration signed between IASBS and the Institute for Organic Chemistry (IOC) at Aachen University

On the sidelines of an official visit to Germany by a high-ranking delegation from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology headed by Dr. H. Saalaar Aamoli and chancellors of 12 top Iranian research centers and universities in early May on an invitation by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD), a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for scientific collaboration was signed between the President of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), Prof. Babak Karimi, and the Head of the Institute for Organic Chemistry (Institut fur Organische Chemie, IOC) at RWTH Aachen University, Prof. Carsten Bolm, to facilitate scientific collaboration, promote education and research opportunities, and exchange faculty and students.

RWTH Aachen University ranks 146th in the QS World University Rankings, with their department chemistry in the range 51-75. Faculty members of the IOC such as Prof. Carsten Bolm and Prof. Dieter Enders are leading scientists in their fields and are among the top 1% most-cited chemistry researchers of the world. According to Thomson Reuters only the world’s top 200 chemists are on that list.

Prof. Bolm and Prof. Karimi expressed hope during the meeting that the MoU would pave the way for the exchange of the faculty and students and promotion of collaboration with the support of the financial institutions in both countries.
