Research Areas of Interest

 

-  Synthesis of Organophosphorus Compounds.

     In this phase of our research program, we are developing a number of new methods for the preparation of organo-phosphorus compounds. We are synthesizing novel phosphonates, phosphinic acids, phosphino pseudodipeptides, phosphoroamidates, thiophosphates and phosphorodithioates. We are also trying to synthesize and study of chelation properties of novel phosphinic acid phosphonic acids with metals. We have also made progress in our efforts to design stereoselective carbon-phosphorus and sulfur-phosphorus bond connections via the Aldol reaction.  In continuing, we are also synthesizing novel chiral phosphinic and phosphonic acids for using in asymmetric transformations. We are trying to functionalize b-cyclodextrin with phosphonate or phsophinate groups for asymmetric transformation and metal separation. We have also a research program for synthesizing nano structures of organophosphorus compounds at the near future. The final phase of the organophosphorus program deals with the development of new methods for the preparation of optical active organophosphorus compounds.

 - Synthesis of New Heterocyclic Compounds

     In this phase of our research program, we are developing new methods for the synthesis of novel hetrocyclic compounds (derivatives of benzodiazepine, 1,2,4-oxadiazoles, imidazolines and triazines). 

-  Fries Rearrangement

     In this phase of our research program, we are developing a number of new catalysts for the Fries rearrangement of phenolic esters. We have also made progress in our efforts to find new reagents for the Fries rearrangement of sulfonate esters and amides. Kinetic studies of Fries rearrangement in different acidic media will be considered.
