Mahdi Bohlouli

Mahdi Bohlouli is currently Assistant Professor for data science and machine learning at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS). Mahdi leads significant number of research projects in applied deep learning, big data analytics, services of tomorrow, industry 4.0 and mostly AI association with various applications and sectors. Mahdi received his PhD in October 2016 from the University of Siegen with the thesis title “Statistical Regeneration and scalable clustering of big data using MapReduce in the Hadoop ecosystem”.

Mahdi has a successful experience and great acceptance record in European and German research funds achievement. In this regard, he has also been invited to give talks in different scientific conferences and events about how to succeed with European research proposals. He has supervised significant number of graduate and undergraduate theses and has taught various courses in different universities up to now. Mahdi has been involved in numerous highly qualified conferences as Program Committee (PC) member or (co-)chair. Furthermore, he was reviewer of scholarly (mostly ISI indexed) journals.   • 2010-2016, Senior research associate and project manager, Institute of Knowledge-based Systems (KBS), University of Siegen (Germany).
  • 2008-2010, Visiting Scholar, University of Potsdam (Germany).
  • 2001-2008, leading up various industrial software projects in the IT sector.

Recent highlights

Publication: The paper with the title “Deep Pre-Processing Approach Towards Large Scale Colloquial Persian Language Understanding Dataset” has been accepted in the 12th Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC 2020).

Publication: The book with the title “Data Science: From Research to Application” is published by the Springer Verlag.

Event: I will co-chair the Innovation Workshop on “Transforming Big Data into Actionable Knowledge (BiDAW) 2020” co-located with the 16th SEMANTiCS conference in Austin, TX.

Publication: The paper with the title “Detection of Thin Boundaries between Different Types of Anomalies in Outlier Detection using Enhanced Neural Networks” has been accepted in the Applied Artificial Intelligence Journal (IF=0.988, Q3)

Talk: I will give a short invited speech with the title “The AI and Big Data Research: Towards the future’s Autonomous Digital World” in German-Japanese Forum: Industry 4.0 and The Future of Work on 31 March 2020, Tokyo, Japan.

Publication: The paper with the title “A Diagnostic Prediction Model for Chronic Kidney Disease in Internet of Things Platform” has been accepted in the Multimedia Tools and Applications” Journal (IF=2.101, Q1)

Publication: The paper with the title “A review on autism spectrum disorder in internet of things (IoT)” has been accepted in the “The Journal of Supercomputing” Journal (IF=2.157, Q2)
