Following a fire in the western section of the campus of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), firefighting and area-monitoring operations have been carried out by university personnel, with the co-operation of the Fire Service and several provincial executive bodies. The IASBS President has thanked everyone involved in the operation for their efforts and support.

On Saturday afternoon, 29 August 2026, a fire broke out in the western section of the campus, adjacent to the Army’s protected area. The university’s security personnel attended the scene, notified the Fire Service, and began taking initial measures to control the fire.

Given the weather conditions, high temperatures, and the dry vegetation and pasture in the area, the fire spread to parts of the campus. Zanjan Fire Service personnel subsequently attended the scene and carried out firefighting operations.

After the fire had been brought under control, and because it could flare up again, crisis-management, natural-resources, district-governorate, and other relevant personnel arrived at the scene on the instructions of, and in co-ordination with, the Zanjan Governorate. By monitoring the area, examining possible fire hotspots, and taking preventive measures, they prevented the fire from starting again. This process continued until the area was confirmed to be safe.

The IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, also attended the scene, reviewed the operation and the measures taken, and thanked the personnel involved for their efforts and support.

Personnel from the Zanjan Fire Service, part of Zanjan Municipality, led by Mr Sha’baani, were present and participated in the firefighting and area-monitoring stages of the operation.

The Director General of Crisis Management of Zanjan Province, Dr Ayyoub Bigdeli, the Governor of Zanjan, Mr Ali Kazemi, the Director General of Natural Resources and Watershed Management of Zanjan Province, Mr Seyyed Hassan Hosseini, the District Governor of Zanjan, Mr Sirous Rostami, the Deputy District Governor of Zanjan, Mr Safaabakhsh, and the Head of Zanjan County Natural Resources Office, Mr Lotfi, were also present and co-operated during the various stages of controlling and monitoring the fire and preventing it from spreading again.

At the end, the IASBS President thanked the Zanjan Governorate and all the bodies and organisations involved in the operation. He also expressed his gratitude to personnel from the Zanjan Fire Service and Municipality, crisis-management and natural-resources organisations, the district-governorate, and the university for controlling the fire, monitoring the area, and preventing it from flaring up again.
