As a specialised centre, this university is active only in the basic sciences and in master's and doctoral degrees. In the following, the academic degrees offered by this university will be introduced.

• Master's degrees
  
  • The master's degree takes two years and consists of 10 to 12 courses in the first year and submitting and defending a thesis project in the second year.
  • Applicants with a bachelor's degree in related fields are eligible to apply. For information on master's courses, see the Subjects of study section.


• PhD degree
  
  • The doctoral degree is a four-year programme that consists of completing at least 6 courses and submitting and defending a dissertation that is expected to produce results published in prestigious international journals.
  • Applicants with a master's degree in related fields are eligible to apply. For information on permitted doctoral courses, see the Subjects of study section.


• Continuous-Track PhD (CTPhD) degree
  
  • This is a 7 to 8 year specialised doctorate degree course from a school diploma to a doctorate in physics where a candidate holding a secondary school diploma can study seamlessly leading to a specialised doctorate degree; PhD.
  • In a period of 4 to 5 years, students study the courses required for master's and doctorate courses and then enter the doctoral research stage by passing a comprehensive examination.
  • The doctoral dissertation research period should take 2-3 years that ends with the writing and defending a thesis the results of which are expected to be published in prestigious international journals.
  • If the student wishes to discontinue the programme or does not meet the necessary criteria to continue the degree course, they can withdraw from the programme and receive a bachelor's or master's degree by passing the required units for the bachelor's or master's degree course.


• Direct PhD
  
  • The specialised doctorate course from bachelor to doctorate is a 5-year educational and research course that begins with the admission of a candidate holding a bachelor's degree and can lead directly to a specialised doctorate (PhD) degree.
  • In the first one-and-a-half to two years, students study the courses required for the master's and doctorate degree courses and then enter the doctoral research stage after passing a comprehensive examination.
  • If the student wishes to discontinue the programme or does not meet the necessary criteria to continue the degree course, they can withdraw from the programme and receive a a master's degree by completing a shorter thesis.

The cost of studying at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) for international students is quarterly or annually according to the table below.

• The tuition is the same for all departments and for all master's and doctoral degrees.
• The tuition fee includes student insurance and the use of university sports facilities.
• Master’s and PhD dormitories include rooms with 2 or 4 beds.

• Afghan students will have up to 25% discount on tuition fees.
• Students with a GPA score above 17 (out of 20) and a departmental ranking of 1 to 3 in their first term at the IASBS will receive up to 50% discount on the next term's tuition.
• Master's students with a GPA score above 17 (out of 20) and a departmental ranking of 1-3 for all three academic terms will have a 50% discount on the one-year master's research course.
• PhD students with a GPA score above 17 (out of 20) and a departmental ranking of 1-3 for all three academic terms will have a 50% discount on the first year of their doctoral research course. Receiving a discount in the following years of the research period will require the approval of the student’s supervisor and the research council on the appropriate progress in the student’s thesis project. A discount on the university tuition fee is granted at most until the end of the allowed years for the PhD course, that is, until the end of the fourth academic year.
• Direct PhD (MSc-PhD) students with a GPA score above 17 (out of 20) and a departmental ranking of 1-3 for all academic terms will have a 50% discount on the first year of their doctoral research course. Receiving a discount in the following years of the research period will require the approval of the student’s supervisor and the research council on the appropriate progress in the student’s thesis project. A discount on the university tuition fee is granted at most until the end of the allowed years for the Direct PhD course, that is, until the end of the fifth academic year.
• Continuous-Track PhD (CT-PhD) students with a GPA score above 17 (out of 20) and a departmental ranking of 1-3 for all academic terms will have a 50% discount on the first year of their doctoral research course. Receiving a discount in the following years of the research period will require the approval of the student’s supervisor and the research council on the appropriate progress in the student’s thesis project. A discount on the university tuition fee is granted at most until the end of the allowed years for the CT-PhD course, that is, until the end of the seventh academic year.

• Abdus-Salam ICTP -IASBS scholarship for Afghan students
• The Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), Zanjan, in collaboration with the AbdusSalam Centre for Theoretical Physics (Abdus-Salam ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, is awarding a limited number of Afghan students with a scholarship for a master's degree in physics for two years.
• This scholarship includes the tuition fee, accommodation fee and health insurance.
• The students will also receive 100 euros per month for living expenses.
• Accepted students will be able to use the university's self-service dining hall at prices subsidised by the Ministry of Science.


• Sobouti Foundation Scholarship
• The IASBS, together with the Sobouti Foundation, has allocated a limited number of scholarships to master's students of basic sciences for a period of two years.
• This scholarship includes the tuition fee, accommodation fee and universal health insurance.
• The student receives 10,000,000 rials per month for living expenses.
• Accepted students will be able to use the university's self-service dining hall at prices subsidised by the Ministry of Science.


• Scholarship of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran
• This ministry allocates a limited number of scholarships for international students in Iran for master's and doctoral courses. The scholarships include the tuition fee, dormitory fee and health insurance.

• Admission procedures
  • Students interested in studying at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) can send their application and documents to the university after studying the necessary conditions and documents.
  • The documents received by this office will be sent to the relevant department. Each department will correspond with the applicant, and after conducting an online interview in English or Farsi, the department's decision on admission or rejection will be communicated to the university’s Education Department.
  • If the student has applied for a specific scholarship, the scholarship will be awarded to the student if approved by the department and the Vice-Chancellor for Education.
  • If you have applied for the scholarships of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Iran, after the announcement of acceptance by the department, your documents will be sent to the Ministry’s Scholarship Department, which will be responsible for deciding whether to grant the scholarship or not.

• A bachelor's degree related to the basic science to enter master's, doctorate (PhD) and Direct PhD (MScPhD) courses
• At least 19 years of age and a grade of 18 (out of 20) in secondary school diploma to enter the ContinuousTrack PhD course in physics
• At least 25 years of age and a grade of 14 (out of 20) in the bachelor’s degree to enter the MSc or Direct PhD (MSc-PhD) degree courses
• At least 27 years of age and a grade point average of 15 (out of 20) in the master's degree to enter the PhD course
