The 3rd International TRIGGER Conference was held from 8 to 10 October 2019 at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences in various fields of geology. The French associate member of TRIGGER, Prof Philip Agard, also took part in the conference.
The conference sought to bring together people from different backgrounds to share their views and experiences. About 100 articles were presented in the conference orally or through posters by Iranian, Iraqi, French and Italian students and faculty in the fields of Active Deformation and Structural Geology, Sedimentary Geology and Stratigraphy, Geodynamics of the Depressed Area in Makraan, Satellite Geodesy and Earth Deformation, Minerals Resources of Iran, Petrology and Geodynamics, Seismology, Structure and Deformation of the Iranian Plateau.
Parallel with this conference, an Image Processing Workshop was held by Dr Erwan Petir from Grenoble University and Dr Sanaz Vajedian from Hanover University entitled “Satellite Image Processing for the Earth Sciences”. Two field trips, “The Zinc and Palladium Ore Deposits of Anguraan” and “The Active Tectonic in the Northern Zanjaan Plateau” were also carried out.
The TRIGGER project was put together in 2016 by a number of French universities and Iran’s Geological Survey, National Cartographic Centre, Earthquake Research Institute, Geophysics Institute, IASBS, and Birjand University in order to create a suitable framework for collaboration between French and Iranian scientists and to provide financial support for conferences.
