School students at IASBS Science House win bronze medals at National Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

Two school students named Mr Raed Ghanbari and Mr Amirreza Nasiri Vatan, who had taken the Conceptual Astronomy course at the IASBS Science House, have won bronze medals in Iran's 2022-2023 National Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad for School Students.

The Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad for School Students is held every year at three stages. At the final stage, 40 selected students from the previous stages take a theoretical and a practical test receiving gold, silver and bronze medals and a diploma of honour. The Iranian National Team is selected from among the gold medalists to be dispatched to the World Olympiad.

The Conceptual Astronomy course was held for the first time at the IASBS Science House last year. It was planned and taught by Dr Hossein Haghi, a member of the IASBS Physics faculty and the Head of the National Team of the Astronomy Olympiad. The two students, both studying at Shahid Beheshti 2 Secondary School in Zanjan, had taken the course for two terms.

The President of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences congratulates the two elite students on this rare success in Zanjan province and wishes them ever increasing success.
