The Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) has been selected as one of the top 3 universities in the country. The award was bestowed on the IASBS in the 9th National Academic Excellence Awards ceremony on 10 November 2024. The ceremony, which was attended by the distinguished Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Dr Hossein Simai Sarraf, and the distinguished Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Dr Hossein Afshin was held at the National Foundation of Science of Iran. The event aimed to strengthen the scientific authority and enhance the scientific quality of the country.
During the ceremony, 57 leading researchers and 3 top universities were honoured. The top 3 universities recognised in the 9th round of the National Academic Excellence programme were as follows:
- The Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS)
- Sharif University of Technology
- Tarbiat Modarres University
The award plaque and medal of the National Foundation of Science of Iran, along with a special prize, were awarded to the chancellors of these universities:
- Prof Saadollah Nasiri Gheidari, the President of he Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS)
- Prof Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, the President of Sharif University of Technology (SUT)
- Prof Youssef Hojjat, the Chancellor of Tarbiat Modarres University

The selected researchers in this annual programme are chosen according to the regulations of "Selection and Support of Iran's Leading Researchers" and their published articles. This programme not only enhances the scientific status of the country but also provides a platform for supporting scientific research and promoting science at national and international levels.
