Two school students participating in the IASBS Science House's "Conceptual Astronomy" courses have succeeded in reaching the third stage of the Iranian Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. According to the National Organization for Educational Testing, by reaching the final exam of the Iranian Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, Mr Raed Ghanbari and Mr Amirreza Nasiri Watan from Zanjan province have succeeded in joining a group of forty select students of this particular national olympiad.
The Iranian Astronomy and Astrophysics School Student Olympiad is held every year in three stages across the country. In the final stage, Iran's A and B teams are selected from among the top forty students in stages one and two to be dispatched to the World Olympiad.
The Conceptual Astronomy courses were held for the first time last year at the University's Science House by Dr Hossein Haghi, a faculty member of the IASBS's Department of Physics and head of Iran's National Astronomy Olympiad team. Two of the students participanting in the courses reached the top 40 select students in the country after succeeding in the tests of the stages one and two. The presence of these two Zanjani school students in the third stage of the olympiad has occurred while most of the finalists of the National Olympiad are from Tehran, Isfahan and Khorasan Razavi provinces. This is a rare success in Zanjan province.
The University management congratulates this important achievement to the teaching staff of the IASBS Science House and wishes the talented school students success in the rest of their endeavours to reach the World Olympiad.
