The first event in the Turkmen Library Lecture Series at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) has been held to mark Saadi Day. It took place on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, and featured the launch of the book Loghme-haa-ye Loghmaani: First Volume, Saadi by Prof Abdolmahdi Mostakin. The ceremony was held in the university’s conference hall and included a lecture by Prof Mostakin on “Self-actualisation from the Perspective of Sheikh-e Ajal, Saadi”. The IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, together with a group of faculty members, staff, and students with an interest in Iran’s rich literary heritage, attended the event.
In his talk, Prof Mostakin elaborated on the stages of self-actualisation from the viewpoint of Abu-Mohammad Mosharrafoddin Mosleh bin Abdollah bin Mosharraf, pen-named Saadi. At the end of the lecture, his book – a practical reflection on the teachings of Sheikh-e Ajal, written with depth and mindfulness for today’s fast-paced and contemplation-averse world – was officially launched and made available in limited copies for sale to members of the IASBS community.
Loghme-haa-ye Loghmaani presents practical dimensions of Saadi’s thought across twenty sections (“twenty morsels”) and is intended to enrich the reader’s understanding. Prof Abdolmahdi Mostakin is one of the country’s leading literary scholars and serves as the Head of the Culture Department at the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO. Among his most valued efforts is his instrumental role in securing the global registration of Gondishapur University – recognised as the world’s first university – with UNESCO in 2017.
