On the occasion of Passive Defence Week, the management board of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) has held a meeting with the Director General of the Passive Defence Organisation of Zanjan Province, Dr Abbas Babaei. The session took place ahead of the national commemorations.
At the meeting, the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, congratulated everyone on Passive Defence Week and emphasised the importance of developing educational and research programmes in this field. He said,
“We have a number of ongoing projects in the area of passive defence, which we consider among the University’s top priorities. Past experience has shown that neglecting passive defence can cause serious damage to infrastructure in times of war or crisis.”
Prof Nasiri Gheydari also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the provincial Passive Defence Organisation and thanked Dr Abbas Babaei for his contribution to promoting scientific cooperation and advancing the understanding of passive defence concepts at both the university and provincial levels.
In turn, Dr Babaei referred to the history of passive defence in Iran and around the world and underlined the need to expand scientific collaboration with universities and research centres. He said,
“Social resilience and ensuring people’s essential needs in times of crisis are the main goals of passive defence, and these cannot be achieved without the participation of academic and scientific elites.”
At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasised the need for the continuation of joint cooperation and the formulation of practical programmes in the field of passive defence.
