Scientific and technological cooperation agreement signed between IASBS and Senegalese Embassy

A joint meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal and the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, together with university vice presidents, several faculty managers and academic members, has been held today in the Presidential Office Lecture Hall. In this meeting, the existing capacities for scientific, research and technological collaboration between the two countries were reviewed.

His Excellency, Mr Saliou Niang Ding, the Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal, emphasised the long-standing, profound and mutually respectful relations between Iran and Senegal. He said Iran possesses valuable experience in higher education, science and technology, and that the scientific quality of Iran’s universities and research centres has created a favourable basis for joint cooperation.

Referring to the successful experience of Senegalese students in Iran, His Excellency added that Senegal was interested in increasing the number of scholarship students in fields that satisfied national needs, especially in the earth sciences, mining, technology and artificial intelligence.

The Senegalese Ambassador also highlighted the capacities of the IASBS describing it as one of the country’s capable centres in science and technology.

In response, The IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, mentioned the long history of relations between the two countries and said that Iran and Senegal had had significant academic and cultural cooperation over the past half-century, and further developing these ties in the current period could open new horizons.

He introduced the structure of the university and said the IASBS consisted of six departments in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biological sciences, earth sciences and computer science, and that, with the support of a well-equipped science and technology park, it provided a suitable capacity for developing joint technological activities.

The President added that one Senegalese student was currently studying at the PhD level in earth sciences at the IASBS, and increasing the number of students and researchers hosted by the university could mark the beginning of a new stage of academic cooperation between the two sides.

Prof Nasiri Gheydari emphasised that a cooperation agreement between the university and the Embassy of Senegal had been prepared, and that with continuous follow-up its practical and beneficial outcomes need to be realised for both countries.

At the end of the meeting, the cooperation agreement was signed by both parties.
