On the occasion of Research and Technology Week, the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, has issued a message describing research as the living spirit of the university and the main pillar of comprehensive national development. He emphasised the need to link university research to the real needs of the society.
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Research is the living spirit of the university and the source of a society’s dynamism. It is an endeavour that not only leads to the discovery of truth but also illuminates the country’s future and strengthens the foundations of scientific independence and sustainable progress. Research Day provides an opportunity to reflect anew on the eminent status of knowledge creation and to honour the efforts of faculty members, researchers, and university students who, through critical and innovative thinking, have pushed the frontiers of knowledge and opened new horizons for our beloved Iran. This day serves as a reminder that no society can attain excellence and strength without research.
Today, more than ever, universities are required to connect their research to the genuine needs of the society. From industry and the economy to culture and health, research becomes truly valuable when, alongside the production of knowledge at the frontiers of science, it helps resolve national challenges and contributes to improving people’s quality of life. This great mission can only be realised through the high commitment of researchers and the support of managers and policymakers. Encouragingly, in recent years the scientific and research activities of the country’s universities have gained hopeful momentum, reflected in scientific publications, technological projects, educational and research innovations, and international collaborations that have enhanced Iran’s standing in science and technology. This path demonstrates clearly that research is not a peripheral activity but the main pillar of comprehensive development.
I hereby extend my congratulations on the arrival of Research Day to all those striving in the field of science and technology, and I sincerely appreciate the valuable efforts of faculty members, researchers, technologists, university students, and staff of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS). I hope that, through reliance on God Almighty and the continuation of committed efforts, we will witness the ever-growing flourishing of the university and the advancement of our proud Iran.
Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari
President of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS)
