Science, humility and legacy; commemorating the late Amir A’lam Ghazanfarian

On the anniversary of the birth of the late Amir A’lam Ghazanfarian, the brilliant prodigy of mathematics and electronic engineering, we have commemorated a young man who, through effort, perseverance, and exceptional genius, charted his academic path with distinction from the International Mathematical Olympiad to Sharif University of Technology and then to Stanford University. He earned a global silver medal, achieved outstanding grade averages, conducted valuable research, and, through his humble and inspiring character, became an enduring role model for generations of university students; a model who believed that “one must learn as though one were to live forever”.

Today, the Amir A’lam Ghazanfarian Materials and Electronics Laboratory at our university stands as his precious legacy; a space in which research, innovation, and scholarly endeavour flow every day and keep his name alive. This laboratory is not merely a specialised facility, it is the continuation of the path of a young man who blended science with love and humanity.

Alongside commemorating the name of this young scholar, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) considers it its duty to express sincere appreciation to all benefactors, donors, and supporters of the university who, with lofty commitment and a forward-looking vision, have played a role in developing educational, research, and welfare infrastructures. The construction of the university refectory, library, educational and research spaces, and many other facilities is the result of the goodwill of those who believe that investing in science is investing in the future of the country.

May the memory of Amir A’lam Ghazanfarian be honoured, and may the names of the university’s benefactors remain enduring and fruitful.
