50 kW power plant at women’s dormitory commissioned as IASBS continues path towards renewable energy development

In continuation of the major policies of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) in the fields of energy consumption management and sustainable development, the 50 kW solar power plant of the women’s dormitory has been commissioned. This project has been implemented to increase the share of clean energy, reduce consumption costs, and help address the country’s energy imbalance.

The initiative has marked the university’s third significant step in developing solar energy infrastructure. Previously, the IASBS’s 115 kW solar power plant was connected to the national electricity grid on 19 July 2025, in the presence of the Deputy for Operation and Dispatching of the Zanjan Province Electricity Distribution Company. This power plant, utilising 208 monocrystalline panels and an on-grid system, plays an effective role in supplying part of the university’s electricity consumption.

In August 2025, the university’s “House of Science” was also equipped, with the design and implementation initiative of the IASBS Technical Office, with an independent 4 kW off-grid solar power plant; a system that is expected to supply more than 90 per cent of the complex’s required electricity during most days of the year without reliance on the national grid.

With the commissioning of the 50 kW power plant of the women’s dormitory, the IASBS has now taken a new step towards institutionalising the culture of renewable energy use and has consolidated its position as a pioneering and mission-oriented university in the fields of social responsibility and environmental protection.

Zanjan Province, benefiting from clear skies and numerous sunny days, has considerable capacity for the development of solar power plants, and the university’s measures can serve as an effective model for other academic and executive centres in the province and across the country.
