Supreme Leader issues Nowruz message marking beginning of year 1405, naming it year of “Resistance Economy under National Unity and National Security”

Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has issued a Nowruz message.

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

یا مقلب القلوب والابصار یا مدبّر اللیل و النهار یا محوِّل الحول و الاحوال، حَوِّل حالَنا الی احسن الحال.

O Turner of hearts and sights, O Manager of night and day, O Transformer of states and conditions, transform our state into the best of conditions.

This year, the spring of spirituality and the spring of nature, the blessed Eid al‑Fitr and the ancient festival of Nowruz, have coincided with one another. I congratulate each and every member of the nation on these two religious and national celebrations, and in particular I extend my greetings to all Muslims of the world on the blessed Eid al‑Fitr. It is also necessary to congratulate everyone on the remarkable victories of the fighters of Islam, and to express my condolences and sympathy to all the families and survivors of the noble martyrs of the second imposed war, the January coup, the third imposed war, as well as the martyrs of security and border protection forces and the martyred unknown soldiers.

On the occasion of the arrival of the solar year 1405, I have some remarks to present below.

First, I will briefly review some of the important events of the past year. Last year, our dear people experienced three military and security wars. The first war was the war of the month of Khordaad, when the Zionist enemy, with special assistance from the United States of America and in the midst of negotiations, carried out a treacherous attack and martyred some of the country’s finest commanders and prominent scientists and subsequently about 1,000 of our compatriots. Because of a grave miscalculation, the enemy believed that after one or two days it would be the people themselves who would overthrow the Islamic system. But through your vigilance, the unparalleled bravery of the fighters of Islam, and great sacrifices, signs of helplessness and humiliation quickly appeared in the enemy, and through mediation and the attempt to cease hostilities, it saved itself from the edge of the precipice.

The second war was the January coup. The United States of America and the Zionist regime imagined that because of the imposed economic difficulties, the Iranian people would implement the enemy’s objective. By using their mercenaries they created numerous tragedies, martyred more of our dear compatriots than in the previous war, and inflicted extensive damage.

The third war is the war in whose midst we are now. On its first day we bid farewell, with tearful eyes and sorrowful and broken hearts, to the compassionate father of the nation, our great leader, may God elevate his noble rank, as he eagerly led a caravan of martyrs on a heavenly journey towards a station prepared for him under divine mercy and among the truthful and the martyrs. From that day onwards, we have gradually bid farewell with deep sorrow to other martyrs of this war, including the young pupils of the Shajareh-ye Tayyebeh School of Minaab, the brave and innocent stars of the Destroyer Denaa, the martyred commanders and fighters of the IRGC, the Army, the Law Enforcement Command, and the Basij, the martyred unknown soldiers, the brave border guards, and other members of the nation, both young and old, who have passed before us in a caravan of light.

This war occurred after the enemy had become disappointed in the prospect of a significant popular movement in its favour and imagined that by martyring the head of the system and a number of influential military figures it could instil fear and despair among you, our dear people, cause you to abandon the arena, and thereby realise the dream of dominating Iran and then dividing it. Yet in this blessed month you combined fasting with jihad and created a vast defensive line across the country and strongholds as numerous as its squares, neighbourhoods, and mosques, delivering such a confusing blow to the enemy that it fell into contradictory statements and repeated absurdities, which are signs of a lack of awareness and cognitive weakness.

You had earlier suppressed the coup on 22 Dey and once again demonstrated your opposition to global arrogance and your tirelessness on 22 Bahman. On 22 Esfand, which coincided with Quds Day, by delivering this blow, you made it clear that the enemy is not dealing merely with missiles, drones, torpedoes, and the military; Iran’s front line is far larger than the enemy’s narrow and limited imagination. Here I must thank each and every one of the dear people for creating this great epic, as well as the courageous, sincere, and popular President and other officials who attended this ceremony among the people without pomp or formality. Such actions and their demonstration can in themselves be highly commendable, strengthening cohesion between the nation and its rulers.

At present, because of the remarkable unity that has formed among you compatriots despite differences in religious, intellectual, cultural, and political backgrounds, the enemy has been fractured. This must be regarded as a special blessing from God Almighty and should be thanked greatly in word, in heart, and in action. One of the unchangeable principles is that whenever a blessing is appreciated, in proportion to that gratitude, its roots become firmer or it advances further, and greater favours are granted to the grateful individual. What is now necessary in terms of practical gratitude is that we regard this great blessing purely as a mercy from God Almighty and use it as well as possible. In this way the cohesion will certainly become stronger and more resolute, and your enemies will become more humiliated. These were some of the important events of the year 1404.

Now that we stand at the threshold of the year 1405, we face several issues. One is that we bid farewell forever to our dear guest, the blessed month of Ramadan 1447. In its Lailatul-ghadr, the Night of Measure, your hearts turned towards the heavens and you called upon the Merciful God, and He directed His kindness towards you. You asked our master, may God hasten his reappearance, and his Lord, for victory, triumph, well‑being, and many blessings, and given the history of divine favour towards this system and this nation, God willing, you will receive either exactly what your hearts asked for or something even better.

At the same time as this farewell, which becomes more bitter and sorrowful the greater a person’s understanding is, we embrace the blessed crescent of Shawwal and await the gift of God with both hope and reverence. I hope that after your responsible nightly and daily presence and the creation of the epic of Quds Day, God Almighty will treat us only with His generosity, patience, forgiveness, and abundant grace, to which we have become accustomed. We especially hope that soon He will grant the glad tidings of a general opening in the matter of the reappearance of our master, the Master of the Age, filling his blessed heart with joy, through which many blessings will descend upon the people of the world by His grace.

Another issue we face is the important occasion of the ancient festival of Nowruz, a celebration that brings with it a gift from nature of renewal, freshness, and life, and which is closely associated with joy and happiness.

At the same time, for the general public this is the first year in which our martyred leader and other noble martyrs are no longer among us. In particular, the hearts of the families and survivors of the martyrs are grieving for their loved ones. Yet for my part, as a simple citizen who has several martyrs among those around him, I believe that although we wear the garments of mourning and our hearts are homes of sorrow for all the martyrs, we will be very pleased if during these days our young brides and grooms begin their married lives. God willing, the prayers of our martyred leader and the other noble martyrs of this war will accompany them. I recommend that people continue the usual visits of this season while respecting the families of the martyrs and considering their circumstances, and it may even be appropriate for each neighbourhood, where coordination is possible, to begin its New Year visits by honouring the martyrs of that area. The period of mourning determined by the government for the martyrdom of our dear leader remains in place, and observing and preserving it is a dimension of the greatness of this system and country.

After these remarks, there are several further brief points.

First, I must especially thank those who, in addition to their presence in squares, neighbourhoods, and mosques, have intensified their social roles through additional efforts these days, including some production units, both public and private, certain service guilds, and particularly individuals who provide various useful services to the people free of charge even though their professions do not require it. Praise be to God, there are many such examples.

Second, one path pursued by the enemy is its media operations, which these days target especially the minds and psyche of segments of the population in order to damage national unity and consequently national security. We must be careful that through negligence we do not allow this malicious intention to be realised by our own hands. Therefore, my recommendation to the domestic media of our country, despite whatever intellectual, political, or cultural differences they may have, is to refrain seriously from focusing on weaknesses; otherwise the enemy may achieve its objective.

Third, one avenue of hope for the enemy is the exploitation of economic and managerial weaknesses that have developed over time. Our martyred leader, may God elevate his rank, had in many years directed the main theme and slogan of the year towards economic matters. In my humble opinion, ensuring people’s livelihoods, improving living and welfare infrastructures, and generating wealth for the public are central points and constitute a form of defence and even a significant advance against the economic war launched by the enemy.

Through the grace granted to me, I have been able to hear the words of dear people from different social groups. For a period I travelled incognito with you in taxis that I requested myself on the streets of Tehran and listened to your words, and I considered this kind of sampling superior to many surveys. In many cases my understanding agreed with what you said, which was often expressed as various criticisms concerning economic and managerial matters. In the process I learned many things from you and continue to seek further learning. Even during the days before and after 19 Ramadan I learned additional matters from various people among you who were present in the squares. I hope I will not be deprived of this blessing.

Following these learnings, these hearings, and other studies, efforts have been made to formulate an effective and expert solution that is as comprehensive as possible. Praise be to God, this objective has been realised to a reasonable degree, and it will soon be ready for implementation by determined senior officials with the cooperation of all members of the nation, God willing. Finally, following the example of our great martyred leader, I declare the slogan of this year to be “Resistance Economy under National Unity and National Security”.

Fourth and finally, what I stated in my first statement regarding the view and policy of the system on relations with neighbouring countries is serious and real. In addition to the element of neighbourhood, we share other spiritual elements, foremost among them our common adherence to the noble religion of Islam. There are also holy shrines and sacred places in some of these countries, the presence of many Iranians residing and working in some others, shared ethnic or linguistic ties, or shared strategic interests, particularly in confronting the arrogance front. Each of these factors can strengthen good relations.

Among our neighbours, we consider our eastern neighbours very close to us. I have long known that Pakistan was a country especially dear to our martyred leader, as seen in the emotion that appeared in his Friday prayer sermon because of the devastating flood that threatened the lives of our fellow believers there. For various reasons I have always thought the same and have not refrained from expressing it in my meetings. Here I would like to request that our two brotherly countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, establish better relations with each other for the sake of God and to avoid division among Muslims, and I am ready to take the necessary steps in this regard.

I also emphasise that the attacks that occurred in Türkiye and Oman, both of which maintain appropriate relations with us, against certain locations in those countries were in no way carried out by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic or other forces of the resistance front. This is a deception by the Zionist enemy using a false‑flag tactic to create division between the Islamic Republic and its neighbours, and similar incidents may occur in other countries as well. I have already mentioned the rest of the points related to this section.

I hope that through the prayers of our master, may God hasten his reappearance, and the grace of God Almighty, the year ahead will be a good year full of victories and many material and spiritual openings for our nation and all neighbours and Muslim peoples, particularly the members of the resistance front, and not such a year for the enemies of Islam and humanity.

“And We desired to show favour to those who were oppressed in the land and to make them leaders and to make them inheritors, and to establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers through them that which they feared.” God Almighty has spoken the truth, His noble Messenger has spoken the truth, and we bear witness to this.

Peace and God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
