Message from IASBS President on World Environment Day

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

In the present age, attention to environmental issues is regarded as one of the most important requirements for the progress of societies. Achieving balanced development and a bright future will not be possible without safeguarding natural resources, making wise use of biological assets, and institutionalising a culture of responsibility. Therefore, awareness-raising, research, and innovation play a decisive role in confronting the challenges facing the environment.

Universities, as centres of reflection and knowledge production, bear a responsibility that goes beyond education and research, and can, by expanding a scientific outlook and training specialists, provide the groundwork for the emergence of a more aware and responsible society. Relying on its scientific and research capacities and within the framework of the “Green University” approach, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) too has sought, alongside its educational and research activities, to strengthen in the university environment a culture of respect for nature, the optimal use of resources, and attention to environmental responsibilities.

Environment Week is an opportunity to recall once again the importance of solidarity and broad participation in protecting natural blessings, and, by drawing on the country’s scientific and specialist capacities, to move along the path of building a healthier, more dynamic future worthy of future generations.

While commemorating Environment Week, I express my appreciation to all lecturers, researchers, students, and activists in this field who, through their knowledge, commitment, and efforts, are playing a role in advancing the country’s environmental culture, and I ask Almighty God to grant them ever greater success.
