Dr Mohammad Hossein Kowsari has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), with the ceremony taking place in the presence of the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, the Vice-President for Administration, Finance, Education, and Research, Prof Zaare-Nahandi, the former Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dr Habibollah Kazemi, and Dr Mohammad Hossein Kowsari.
During the meeting, the IASBS President acknowledged the services of Dr Habibollah Kazemi during his tenure as the Head of the Department of Chemistry, and emphasised the need to continue and strengthen the scientific and research path of the Department and to effectively utilise the capacities of faculty members and researchers to realise the university’s goals.
He identified strengthening the position of the Department of Chemistry at the frontiers of knowledge, supporting creative and problem-oriented research, developing technological and applied activities, and expanding connections with scientific centres, industries, and specialised groups as the most important areas ahead of the Department, and emphasised the necessity of providing a suitable environment for the growth and nurturing of scientific talents.
According to a decree issued by the IASBS President, Dr Mohammad Hossein Kowsari has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Chemistry for a two-year term, based on his commitment, competence, and valuable scientific and managerial record, taking effect from 23 August 2026.
In this decree, the utilisation of the scientific capacities of the faculty members and researchers of the Department to strengthen the position of chemistry at the frontiers of knowledge, the support of creative and problem-oriented research, the development of technological and applied activities, and the expansion of connections with scientific centres and industries have been highlighted. Additionally, student recruitment based on the university’s strategic plan, the strengthening of interdisciplinary cooperation, and the effective utilisation of laboratory capacities are other focal points emphasised in the decree.
The appointment decree also stresses the importance of providing the necessary conditions for the growth of scientific talents, supporting the formation of innovative and impactful achievements, and adhering to the scientific and ethical values outlined in the Islamic University document.
In another decree, the services and efforts of Dr Habibollah Kazemi during his tenure as the Head of the Department of Chemistry were acknowledged, and his hard work in developing the Department’s scientific and research activities were appreciated.
The decree concludes by wishing Dr Mohammad Hossein Kowsari success in his new responsibilities, while extending gratitude to Dr Habibollah Kazemi for his continued scientific and professional contributions.
