The Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr Mansoor Gholaami, the Deputy Minister for Administration, Finance, and Resources Management, Dr Mohammed Taghi Nazarpour, and their entourage have visited an exhibition on the scientific and research achievements of the students and faculty at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences, IASBS, on the Minister’s fourth provincial trip. The visit took place on Thursday, 29 September 2019.
The Minister was given brief reports on the latest developments while visiting various pavilions on green management at the University, products and inventions made by the firms residing at IASBS’s Science and Technology Park, the Research Centre for Basic Sciences and Modern Technologies (RBST), the Home of Science, intelligent energy consumption systems, construction of mechanical laboratory equipment for universities, and the achievements of various IASBS departments.
The Minister of Science then visited various physics laboratories including the Optical Tweezers and the Non-diffracting Beams Labs and was briefed on the indigenised Confocal Electronic Microscope that had won the prize for the best invention of the year at the “3rd National Festival and the International Congress on Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine” in November 2018. This modern technological invention in optics has resulted in considerable foreign exchange savings in comparison to its imported versions and has put Iran among the few countries that produce this instrument.
On the occasion of Government Week, the Minister of Science, Research and Technology together with the Governor General of Zanjaan inaugurated the IASBS’s 5th department, the Department of Geological Sciences with an area of 6,380 square metres. During this visit, the President of the IASBS provided a report on the scientific and research activities of the Geological Sciences Department.
At the conclusion of the visit, Dr Gholaami said that the scientific and research achievements of this university were a turning point for the basic sciences of the country and that the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences was considered to be a progressive university with respect to many goals and objectives of the Ministry of Science.
