Invention of a dual purpose biosensor for gene therapy and live cell imaging at IASBS

Dr Shiva Akbari-Birgani, a faculty member of the Biological Sciences Department, and her colleagues (Dr Saeed Mohammedi, a faculty member at Tehran Medical University, and Ms Zahra Madadi, an MSc student of biochemistry at the IASBS) have designed a dual purpose biosensor that can carry out gene therapy and live cell imaging simultaneously. The new biosensor has been registered as an invention after scientific evaluation at the Centre for Intellectual Property.

It was with these groups in mind that the main idea behind the AvaNama software took shape in 2015 by a research group at the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology under the supervision of Dr Mansoor Davoodi. The first version of AvaNama was released in autumn 2019 compatible with both Windows and Android operating systems.
